PRODRIVE RACING – AUCKLAND FRIDAY WRAP
If the results continue, what started as an inside joke amongst Prodrive Racing (Australia) teammates may just have to stick around. With a lap of 1m02.56s in the waning moments of Friday afternoon’s practice session, Cameron “Cammy Quick Time” Waters posted the fastest lap of all on the opening day of competition at the Auckland SuperSprint.Waters (#6 Monster Energy FG X), who recently enjoyed the announcement of Monster Energy remaining on his FG X next season, recovered from a difficult morning session where he placed 24th to lead the field on a brisk November Friday in New Zealand.

The team struggled to put a quick time down in the first practice session of the weekend, with Jason Bright (#56 MEGA Fuels FG X) the only driver scraping into the top ten. But adjustments made over the lunch hour proved invaluable as PRA rallied to place 1-3-5-11 in the second session of the day, with Mark Winterbottom (#5 The Bottle-O) ending the day third and Bright 11th.

Chaz Mostert (#55 Supercheap Auto FG X), one of five drivers contending for the Supercars championship, finished the day fifth and believes his Ford has more to offer on Saturday, which includes group qualifying and Race 23 on the 2017 calendar.

“The car was good (at the end). We have really good race pace and unfortunately we got a bit of traffic those last two laps. It’s just been a run of the year, we don’t really get a clean run. The car was good, but we still didn’t maximise it at the end, but we had a good day, which is nice. It’s sort of taken ten months to get my car to sort of where I feel comfortable, and I think now we can start to get some good results.”

Practice 2: 1st, 1m02.56s
“We’re obviously pretty happy with that practice. Practice 1 my car was really bad and we struggled for balanace, I couldn’t brake the thing and we were pulling our hair out. We changed a fair bit between practice sessions and the car was awesome then. I think there’s a bit more in it, and we’ll try to do it again tomorrow.”

We were a little bit off today but we are definitely making improvements. I got an okay run but still have a bit of pace to find. It is good to see Cam and Frosty up there and when your team-mates are the ones on top you can have a look at their data and see where you’re missing. It wasn’t a bad day but if we want to have a good crack tomorrow, whether it is dry or wet, we still have a little bit of work to do.”

“I am pretty happy. We can see the areas where we need to improve a little bit. We struggled a lot under brakes today and made some good ground to fix it, but there is more to come. If we find that difference we will be pretty strong. We made a lot of progress today which is encouraging.”

Chris O’Toole – Team Manager
“We enjoyed a very strong opening day at Pukekohe and to finish with three cars in the top five is ideal. We worked through all of our program and all the drivers are pleased with their day, but with a fair bit of rain likely tomorrow it will be a very different set of circumstances we’ll face so we won’t get too carried away with things.”
